New EU poll: Massive NO majority in Norway

Sentio Research Norway recently asked a representative 1000 Norwegians on their view on Norwegian EU membership. The result of the poll was published today - in three Norwegian newspapers (Nationen, Klassekampen and Magazinet).

The main finding is that there is still a massive NO majority in Norway. Norwegians still do not want to be EU members. That`s fine.

The largest Yes party is still the Conservatives (Høyre), where 58 per cent is in favour of EU membership. The largest No majority is in one of the governing parties, the Centre Party (Sp), with 95% No among its voters. The largest party, the ruling Social Democratic party (Labour party, Ap) is evenly split - 44% No and 44% Yes.

The Yes "stronghold" is still in the two central districts Akershus (surrounding the capital Oslo) and Oslo itself, where 45% of the voters are in favour of Norwegian EU membership.

What am I, a conservative EU sceptic, support to vote? Note Høyre, simply because the question is too important. I would rather vote on an EU-oppositional party which is not conservative, than a conservative party whose political elite are all in favour of an EU membership for Norway. However, there is a paradoxical alternative, namely Venstre. That's a liberal party (isn't liberalism the opposite of conservatism?), but has taken up surprisingly many similarities with Høyre over the years. The problem will arise when/if Lars Sponheim announces his EU support. I hope he will not do that at the national congress in 2009. I hope he will realize how undemocratic and potentially destroying the Lisbon Treaty is for the national state. In the meantime, I think that Kystpartiet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kystpartiet) deserves a mandate in our Storting. It could in many regards be looked upon as the sister party of UKIP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukip, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97ZshPssidM&feature=related, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw7XwexR2ec).
